About The Conference

Bridging the Global Nepali Health Diaspora

Connecting expertise, innovation, and resources to strengthen Nepal's provincial and national health systems.

Historic Provincial Gathering

6th NRN Global Health Conference

A premier international forum uniting Diaspora health professionals, national health authorities, clinicians, researchers, and global academic partners in Janakpurdham.

Beyond Kathmandu

Taking global health dialogue directly into provincial settings to bridge urban-rural disparities and empower local clinical capacity.

Institutional Synergy

Establishing enduring partnerships between international medical colleges, NHS trusts, and Nepalese healthcare institutions.

The Sixth NRN Global Health Conference 2026 will be held in the historic city of Janakpur, Madhesh Province, Nepal, on 4–5 December 2026. The conference is an international platform for government leaders, health professionals, academics, researchers, international organisations, development partners, private-sector organisations and members of the Nepali diaspora.

The theme, "Reverse Migration with Global Collaboration", reflects an important opportunity for Nepal. The movement of health professionals across borders should not be viewed only as a loss of human resources. With appropriate policies, partnerships and opportunities, migration can become a mechanism for knowledge transfer, capacity building, innovation, investment and health-system strengthening.

Nepal has a large and highly skilled global health diaspora. Nepalese doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, public-health specialists, researchers and other health professionals make significant contributions internationally. The conference aims to connect this expertise with the needs and priorities of Nepal.

Janakpur provides an important setting for this conversation. As the capital of Madhesh Province and an important cultural and educational centre, it provides an opportunity to take global health collaboration beyond Kathmandu and strengthen connections with provincial and local health systems.

Conference Objectives

Nine operational pillars organized into three transformative strategic thrusts driving reverse migration, institutional excellence, and provincial healthcare equity.

Strategic Pillar 01 Brain Circulation

Diaspora & Reverse Migration

Mobilising overseas talent, structured clinical contributions, and diaspora healthcare investment.

Objective 01
Reverse Migration Frameworks

Develop practical, policy-backed approaches to reverse migration, circular professional exchange, and credential recognition for returning diaspora experts.

Objective 02
Diaspora Clinical Contributions

Create institutional opportunities for overseas Nepali doctors and nurses to provide clinical care, surgical camps, and system mentorship.

Objective 03
Diaspora Health Investment

Encourage and de-risk targeted diaspora capital investment into hospital infrastructure, diagnostic capacity, and medical innovation.

Strategic Pillar 02 Global Academic Twinning

Academic & Clinical Excellence

Forging enduring partnerships across international universities, NHS healthcare trusts, and Nepalese colleges.

Objective 04
Institutional Twinning & Education

Establish formal partnerships linking NHS healthcare trusts and global research faculties with Nepal's teaching hospitals for clinical fellowships and curriculum exchange.

Objective 05
Research & Innovation

Strengthen domestic research infrastructure, international multi-centre clinical trials, bioethics, and translation of evidence into health policy.

Objective 06
International Friends of Nepal

Connect global academics, researchers, and institutional partners with Nepal's universities and hospitals through visiting appointments, collaborative research, teaching, mentorship, and capacity-building.

Strategic Pillar 03 Grassroots Equity

Provincial Delivery & Equity

Decentralising healthcare excellence to Madhesh Province through technology and permanent national frameworks.

Objective 07
Provincial & Underserved Services

Directly strengthen clinical capacity in Madhesh Province and historically underserved districts to narrow urban-rural health inequalities.

Objective 08
Digital Health & Telemedicine

Deploy digital health systems, telemedicine remote specialist consults, and scalable technology transfer to rural health centres.

Objective 09
National & Provincial Framework

Establish a permanent, sustainable national mechanism uniting the diaspora, federal ministry, and provincial health directorates for continuous long-term collaboration.

Anticipated Summit Legacy

The Janakpur Declaration on Reverse Migration and Global Health Collaboration 2026

The defining output of the conference is the formal adoption of the Janakpur Declaration—a multi-lateral commitment establishing policy pathways for diaspora engagement, university twinning, and rural health development.

Janakpur Global Health Network Permanent secretariat facilitating ongoing institutional partnerships, mentorship, research, and bilateral health exchange beyond 2026.

Welcome to Janakpur

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the Sixth NRN Global Health Conference 2026, which will be held in the historic city of Janakpur, Madhesh Province, Nepal, on 4–5 December 2026.

This year's theme, "Reverse Migration with Global Collaboration", reflects an important opportunity for Nepal. The movement of healthcare professionals across borders should not be viewed only as a loss of human resources. With the right policies, partnerships and opportunities, migration can become a powerful mechanism for knowledge transfer, capacity building, innovation, investment and health-system strengthening.

The conference will bring together government leaders, health professionals, academics, researchers, international organisations, development partners, private-sector organisations and members of the Nepali diaspora. We will discuss practical approaches to reverse migration, international training, research collaboration, digital health, healthcare investment, innovation and strengthening health services, particularly in underserved communities.

Importantly, this conference should not end with two days of discussion. We hope to develop long-term partnerships and measurable commitments, including visiting faculty programmes, specialist training, research collaborations, hospital and university partnerships, mentorship programmes, digital-health initiatives and opportunities for diaspora investment.

We warmly invite colleagues from Nepal and around the world to join us in Janakpur. Let us move from brain drain to brain circulation, and from brain circulation to brain gain, creating a model of global collaboration that can contribute to a stronger, more equitable and sustainable health system for Nepal.
